Target focuses primarily on urban locations
Target is successful; there is no doubt about that. And it employs over 360,000 employees and this fact makes Target also an important player in the field of employment. Thus there is no doubt that the company wants to expand their chain of stores. New branches will be opened in format of CityTarget as well as TargetExpress. Concretely, the number of newly opened CityTarget branches is six and eight in the case of TargetExpress.

The interesting fact is also the opening of the first TargetExpress store in Minneapolis - in the state whence comes this huge chain of stores.
Not only opening, but also closing of stores
Opening of new stores isn´t nothing special in the case of Target, they opened 16 new stores last year. But the fact is that they closed other 14 stores in the course of the last year. The situation is the same in this year – since February 1, the company has been closing a total of 11 Target stores. It is about stores in smaller areas, such as Carrolton, Texas, Bay City, Illinois, and Lithonia, Georgia.
Target in Canada is a separate chapter. The company failed there because hadn´t managed to penetrate the market which is controlled by Canadian retailers. Target had entered the Canadian market two years and had operated in Canada a total of 133 stores. All stores in Canada were closed due to the disastrous sales results.
